Information for Attorneys

1. CONTACT / REFERRAL 
Physicians for Human Rights refers cases to our Asylum Clinic through the process outlined on this page. Please note that cases must be submitted as direct referrals to Buffalo Human Rights Initiative in order for us to receive them. 

All non-detained clients are referred to the Western New York Center for Survivors of Torture. They ensure that the client receives debriefing after recounting traumatic events and/or follow-up medical care since HRI does not provide medical care- only objective evaluations.

2. EVALUATION 
We conduct physical, gynecological, and psychological forensic evaluations at Western New York MRI in Buffalo, NY. 
 

3. AFFIDAVIT DRAFTING AND SUBMISSION
Our student volunteers work with our clinician volunteers to draft and finalize the client's affidavit(s) which are then submitted to the client's attorney for edits and then submitted to support the client's asylum claim.
