Training 

All individuals including clinicians and students that assist with conduction of forensic evaluations and subsequent affidavit preparation must attend our once annual in-person training as well as complete the 5 core Asylum Medicine Training Initiative Modules. Please see below for information on upcoming trainings:

The Human Rights Initiative (HRI) at the University at Buffalo is excited to invite you to our annual Forensic Evaluation Training, taking place on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025 from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (955 Main Street, Buffalo, NY) in Active Learning Room 1220. The training will be led by local experts in collaboration with Physicians for Human Rights. Attendees will be eligible for 3.0 CME Credits.*

Please join us to learn how to perform these evaluations and draft medico-legal affidavits to document the findings. All individuals interested in participating in this work are welcome to attend. These individuals include but are not limited to: physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, other health profession students, NPs, PAs, mental health providers, allied health professionals, lawyers, law students, judges, and social workers.
